How BSI BenchMark Works

The BSI BenchMark methodology utilizes management principles and a management system maturity matrix to evaluate progress of your management system and identify areas for improvement.  It helps you work towards business excellence and facilitates a scoring system to BenchMark your organization, through a series of steps explained below.

The Management Principles

The BenchMark methodology evaluates progress of an organization's management system. This is accomplished by identifying, measuring and reporting progress within key specified elements of the management principles identified below:

• Customer focus
• Leadership
• Involvement of people
• Process Approach
• Systems approach to management
• Factual approach to decision making
• Continual improvement
• Mutually beneficial supplier relationships

Steps to Measure Management System Maturity

Performance within the management principles is reviewed and verified using a scoring matrix.  Dependent on the management system maturity, organizations can achieve the award levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

1. Key defined elements of each Management Principle are reviewed.
2. Scores are achieved by meeting criteria within the element.
3. Overall scores are assigned to each principle.
4. The management system score is calculated.
5. A report containing scores and identifying areas for improvement is provided.
6. A certificate is provided to organizations achieving a bronze level or above.
7. The scores are added to the BSI BenchMark database.

BSI BenchMark Database

This secure database on the website is for BSI BenchMark clients only and will:

• Use scores to provide a benchmark for either your entire organization or parts of it
• Allow you to position your organization against others in your competitive environment
• Help you to gauge exactly how well you are performing against others, whether in some or all of principles
• Over time, allow increased transparency of your management system's progress towards best in class
