Security, always critical to any organization and especially for lottery operators, had no Internationally recognized Security standards until the World Lottery Association Security Control Standard (WLASCS) was first introduced in the 1990’s.
The WLA produced this standard, based on the BS 7799 security standard, which is tailored to suit the specific needs of the lottery industry. Though attaining the standard is voluntary, its importance is growing. The standard was issued by the Executive Committee 'to enable members to achieve a common security standard and for those who wish to participate in international lottery games.'
