SA8000:2001
The most respected standard in the field of Social Accountability is Social Accountability International’s SA8000:2001 standard.

This standard was developed in 1997 and is the widest recognized standard globally. BSI is accredited by SAI to deliver assessments to SA8000 and, as the leading global management systems provider, is in a unique position to assess organizations from a wide range of sectors and countries.


ISO
At an international conference on Social Responsibility held in Stockholm in June 2004, the International Standards Organization (ISO) agreed to progress with a new work item on Social Responsibility.

This item will be a standard intended to provide practical guidance to "assist organizations in addressing their social responsibilities while respecting cultural,societal, environmental and legal differences and economic development conditions."
